accounting8.com is a directory of accounting firms in the United States. This page explains where the data comes from and how listings are put together.
What this directory is
The directory covers California, Florida, Michigan, and Delaware — about 44,000firms in four categories (CPAs and accountants, bookkeepers, tax preparers, and financial planners), plus registered agents. A listing shows the firm’s business details and its Google rating.

Where the data comes from
Three sources:
- Google Maps business listings, for California, Florida, Michigan, and Delaware. Business-level fields only: name, address, phone, website, category, opening hours, and the aggregate star rating with its review count. Review texts, reviewer names, photos, and personal data are not collected and not published. Ratings and review counts are Google’s and are attributed to Google wherever they appear.
- The IRS PTIN return-preparer registry, which is public. It is used to flag firms that appear in it, and to add business-name listings that the Google Maps data does not contain.
- Company LinkedIn pages — business pages only, no personal profiles.
The data was last updated in July 2026. Hours, phone numbers, and ratings change between refreshes, so the firm itself is always the authoritative source.
How firms are listed and ranked
A firm gets its own profile page if it has Google reviews and either a website or a match in the IRS PTIN registry. Firms that do not meet that bar are not given a profile page.
State, city, and category lists are sorted by Google rating, then by number of reviews, then by name. The Best of 2026 lists use a narrower set: only firms with at least 5 Google reviews and a website.
Nothing in either ordering is affected by payment or by any relationship with a firm.
Corrections and removals
Any listing can be corrected or removed on request — see Request removal or correction. Requests are handled by email; sending from an address at the firm’s own domain makes verification faster.
What the site is not
- Not paid placement. No firm can buy a listing, a position in a list, or a badge.
- Not a review site. Every rating shown comes from Google. accounting8 does not collect, write, or moderate reviews, and publishes no ratings of its own.
- Not affiliated with Google, the IRS, or the firms listed. The Google Maps and IRS PTIN data used here is public; using it implies no endorsement in either direction.
