Guides, city rankings and directory pages on accounting8 carry the byline “accounting8 Editorial Team”. It is a team byline: each page is researched, checked and updated by the team as a whole, and the team answers for it.

What the team does

Research

Guides start from primary sources: IRS publications and regulations, state boards of accountancy and their rules, the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, SBA lending rules, and the published data of practice marketplaces and brokers. Each guide lists its sources at the end and marks every figure as observed, claimed by the source, or estimated.

Directory data

The team compiles the firm listings from public business records, matches them against the IRS register of paid tax preparers, sorts them into services, and rebuilds the directory when new data is collected. The rules are published on how we build the directory.

Checking and corrections

Before a page is published, figures are checked against the source they cite. After publication, reported errors are checked the same way and fixed; the page’s “Updated” date changes only when its content does. See the editorial policy.

What the team does not do

• Give tax, legal or accounting advice. The guides summarize published sources; they are not advice.
• Accept payment from firms, brokers or marketplaces for coverage, a mention, or a position in a list.
• Write, rate or edit reviews of the firms listed.
